Welcome Back to The Growing House
Hey, friends, welcome back to The Growing House! Over the summer, I’ve had a ton of different projects that I’ve been working on, and a couple of plants have just gotten left without a permanent home. Some of them, I was waiting for the fence to go in; some, I was waiting to figure out the sun in the yard; and a couple of them, I just couldn’t decide where to put them.
This Week, I Decided I’m Done
This week, I decided I’m done. I have a couple of plants I have to move based on the sun, others that just need to get into the ground, hopefully by the end of this video. All of these loose ends from summer will be nicely tied up. Let’s plant this bed!
A Giant Hosta Cultivar
In my haste to plant this hosta for frog infer, I planted it too close to the foundation. This is a giant hosta cultivar that will eventually reach four feet across.I wanted to relocate it roughly a foot farther from the house to give it ample room to grow.
A Full Shade Woodland Bed
Eventually, I will mulch this area, and this will be a full shade woodland bed. As you can see, my yard is 90 rocks here. Here is another giant hosta cultivar that I had placed in my front hosta bed temporarily from earlier in the summer. It’s been needing to be moved for quite a while now.
These Are My Eclipse Bigleaf Hydrangeas
These are my Eclipse bigleaf hydrangeas. They have beautiful dark foliage, giant bright pink flowers; they’ve been blooming all season for me. This is a full sun bed; it gets sun and heat until about 430 pm. It’s also a raised bed, so it dries out a little bit quicker than other areas.
We Are Moving Them to the Backyard
They do not like it here. We are moving them to the backyard. I’m going to put them along the fence, where there’s a lot more afternoon shade, starting at about 1230, and they’ll be shaded for the rest of the day. Let’s dig these guys up, and we’re going to take them to the yard. You’ll be much happier there.
Much Better Location for Smooth and Broadleaf Hydrangeas
This is eventually going to be a large woodland shade bed. This area gets morning sun until about noon, when the maple trees start sending it into dappled shade, and then in the later afternoon, the fence and my neighbor’s workshop put this area into full shade. Much better location for smooth and broadleaf hydrangeas.
I Should Have Watered These Eclipse Hydrangeas
I made sure to soak the root ball and the surrounding grass really well here. It’s been pretty dry, as you can tell, and honestly, looking back, I should have watered these Eclipse hydrangeas before I moved them. They’re fine; they are definitely divas, though.
These Are Spilled Wine
These are Spilled Wine. They have a similar darker green foliage and get similar bright pink flowers, so that’s why I picked this to replace the Eclipse hydrangeas in the front bed. These are much more tolerant to sun. I have not seen these bloom because I bought them after their bloom was done. Hopefully, we get a lot of color from them.
This Vanilla Strawberry
This Vanilla Strawberry is from the same batch as the one I put in my front bed. I really had a hard time deciding where to put this plant. I was going to put it over by the maples, but it’s a little bit too shady over there for a panicle. This area here is very sunny and very hot.
Only About 4 ft Between the Fence and the Concrete
Unfortunately, there’s only about 4 ft between the fence and the concrete. I’m going to have to selectively prune back this hydrangea throughout the growing season to make sure it’s not flopping on people’s heads or leaning too heavily on the fence as it grows. Eventually, I hope it gets tall enough that it’ll be above people’s heads and above the fence, and it’ll be absolutely gorgeous.
I Stole Some Sedum
I had just an area of dirt over here that I needed something, so I went to my parents’ and I stole some sedum. This will grow and spread nicely here. I found these wrought iron fence pieces on Facebook Marketplace for 10, they’re super sturdy and beautiful, and at platill, I found a discount clematis.
I’ve Always Wanted to Grow Clematis
I’ve always wanted to grow clematis, so I figure this is the perfect place to do it, right next to the patio, somewhere we’ll be able to enjoy the flowers. Whoa, whoa, whoa! I’ve had this clematis since before the fence went in, just waiting for a home here. I am moving this guy for the fourth time.
Look at Those Roots!
Look at those roots! This is a massive clematis that I found on Facebook Marketplace for 15. It’s an 8-year-old plant; it was sheared back pretty significantly so that it could be moved and had a pretty massive root base. Hey! Hey, hey! Woo! Woo!
Everything Is in the Ground
Now we just tidy everything up with some mulch, and we’re done. Woo! Okay, I can officially say everything is in the ground. For the first time, I can look around, and I’m not in the back of my head going, “Ah, I need to plant that.”
I’m Super Happy With Where This Yard Ended Up
For our first summer here, I’m super happy with where this yard ended up. Obviously, I’m already planning for spring. I cannot wait to see everything come back up. I do have some ideas for where I want to move things, things I want to change for next year.
We’ll See You in the Next One
You guys know me, this is not going to be the last time I’m planting things this season. I’m sure I’ll have more plants going in the ground, but again, I’m just so happy with how this yard has turned out. Thanks for hanging out with me, and we’ll see you in the next one!
Every heading is made only from words already in its paragraph, and the paragraphs are untouched.
Your “Title prompt” section didn’t include an actual title, so I haven’t done anything with it. Send the title you want converted. Making a title more eye-catching usually means changing its wording, so tell me whether I may reword it or should only pull from words you already have.
